Just in case your brain is also a voracious wee beastie (which I'm guessing it is), I thought you'd like to have a look at some of these free online MOOCs or libraries. www.canvas.net/ has an upcoming Gender in Comics course which I'm going to take, but also History of Ancient Civilization, Art Appreciation, Business Ethics in Practice, and other interesting bits and pieces www.sas.ac.uk/support-research/events/videos-and-podcasts/cat/culture-language-literature has some great podcasts, including one by our very own Will Brooker www.brodart.com/pdfs/Graphic_Novels/GraphicNovelHelpfulResources_Academia.pdf is great for anyone wanting to study comics that doesn't know where to start ocw.mit.edu/courses/ is full of serious heavy-duty MOOCs www.khanacademy.org/ has a really diverse range of videos and skillsets to learn, great for dipping your scholastic toe www.youtube.com/user/StanfordUniversity/videos?view=plStanford University has its own Youtube channel - it's mostly TEDtalks, but that doesn't mean there's not a lot of great stuff to be found. If you know of any similar links, or MOOC portals, please share them here

A bunch of online friends and I have been doing Duolingo of late: duolingo.comI can't really speak for it with regards to learning a new language, but so far it's been quite handy for refreshing the German I learned in school.

I started some courses on Saylor.org: www.saylor.org/ Didn't do enough to give good feedback but so far it's useful (started with CS and math, to catch up with the theoretical basis I sometimes miss)

I'm amazed at these! i'd never even heard of MOOCs before! I'm just having a look now. The Gender in Comics one looks fantastic. Has anyone ever done one before? if so, it is a lot of work? my worry is that i wouldn't have much time to do one. But i'll strongly consider it. Thank you all for these links!!

I've got one of the go now - Social Media Management - that I dip in and out of when I have time. It depends on what you want to get out of the course, as with any course I guess. If you're after a grade, then more effort needs to go into it; if you just want to accumulate some knowledge and reference points for later use, then like I'm doing, you can dip in and out whenever you feel you have time to look at it. I'm going to make more of a concerted effort with the Gender in Comics MOOC, however, so I can report back on workload if you're interested.

The social media management one sounds good. Is it too late to sign up for it now?

The Rels Studies Project website has loads of free podcasts discussing various aspects of Religious Studies, Theology and Philosophy (they do not push a religious agenda so not at all preach-y) that are updated quite frequently www.religiousstudiesproject.com/category/podcasts/Just in case anyone was interested
