Hello! *waves* I guess I'd better introduce myself, seeing as there's no one else here yet.

I'm Bethan (though I'll answer to pretty much anything - seriously my dad calls me Fred half the time) and as well as being forum admin on here I'm a PhD candidate. My research is on X-Files fanfiction and gender, so my work essentially involves watching The X-Files and reading fanfic. It's a hard way to spend the day, I tell you...

In case this doesn't tell you everything you need to know, I'm geeky and proud. I'm a huge SFF fan and some of my favourite authors are Ray Bradbury, Sheri S. Tepper, Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. I'm a Phile but I'm also into Who, True Blood, Torchwood and Sherlock, and my guilty pleasure films are apocalypse movies like The Day After Tomorrow.

It should also go without saying that I'm Team Cat all the way. That girl rocks my world.

One of those will say Avatar and there'll be a drop down menu. You can choose your profile pic from there

If you're linking to a picture it looks like it has to already be 100x100 or smaller. If it's larger than that it won't work - or it didn't when I tried earlier.

Until recently I had only a vague idea that research into fandom was a thing, and now it's on my list of awesome. What's the broader field? (unsure of terminology, sorry if I'm unclear.)

Also: my dad also calls me Fred, usually when he's cycled through the names of the rest of his kids and sometimes his grandkids and still can't come up with my name.

Aw thank you! Yeah Will asked me to set the forum up, though I'm co-modding it with lucy and katshimmy.

Fan studies is definitely a thing of awesome. My PhD technically comes under Cultural Studies, but Fan Studies is an area within that which is definitely growing. I can talk about it for hours so ask away if you've got questions.
