Hello Cat People! I'm a Kat person; Katherine's my name and sociology is my preferred avocation. It's also my career-- I'll be pursuing a PhD in the subject very soon, specialising in the study of gender as it manifests in online group relations. There seem to be a lot of us PhD candidates and doctors gathering around our new favourite superhero!
I hope to get to know some of you all better and perhaps have a little of this "fun" I've heard so much about! *waves shyly*

Hello fellow Kat person I've also heard of this "fun" business and I do believe I'm having some on these boards We definitely have a lot of academics and the academically-minded gathering here. It's having Cat as inspiration and representation maybe? Your PhD topic sounds very interesting. What sort of communities/sites are you going to be looking at?

Thanks everyone! Online gaming and pen-and-paper roleplaying, mostly. I've a few ideas for things I want to do with any data I collect. A big one is examining gender identity formation in online spaces-- i.e. how people may experiment with changing their gender in various ways through virtual play, et cetera. I could go on about it for hours (as I'm sure most of us could about our work! But I shall refrain. I definitely agree, Cat's already an inspiration! I also feel represented by her, which is lovely. And, wordiebirdie, I will check out that thread you mentioned, thanks!
