Hi all, I figured I should really make a wee post here before I get in too deep.
I'm Paige (but Rhi's fine, as per the handle). I'm 29, complexly-gendered, and from the US Midwest, now living in Glasgow with my husband. I'm a bit of a social justice boffin and an unabashed geek, a classic rock fan, superkeen on science fiction, and I watch way too many random documentaries on BBC iPlayer. From a job/school perspective, I did my BA in American Studies with a pop culture focus, and more recently, an MA in media production, but I currently work in HR. I still toy with the idea of academia, mind...and I adore cultural studies like nothing else.
As for how I got here, I keep a half an eye on comics a good chunk of the time, but pop back in a lot more where gender, race, and portrayals of other under-represented people are concerned. I'm keen on indie comics and webcomics as well. (Oh, and I follow Beth on Twitter, so that's how I got here, for that matter.)
So yes, hello again! I never know how to end this sort of thing.

Hello! Lovely to see you on here I really enjoy academia. What would you do if you were to get back into it?

I'd love to do some media productiony stuff, but I also have a deep dark urge to combine my two loves and do a research Master's, or, if money were possible, a PhD on US and UK representations of each other's history (e.g.: Cold Mountain).

That would be really interesting. Any chance you'll get to do it?

There might be something for you down at Gloria University then, Rhi
Could you elaborate on 'complexly gendered', if that's not too cackhanded a request? I have strenuously avoided Gender studies before getting involved with MSCSI, simply because I could never find any definitions of gender that included my self-perception..

Beth: Eh, that'd really depend on funding. I need a bit more time in the UK to be eligible even for resident costs, much less most funding schemes. Also, I have many frets that I didn't do quite well enough in my BA or MA to get much in terms of grants. That said, Glasgow would be the place to do the Epic Dissertation I mentioned, so that's a start.
Riven: Nae bother, it was sort of ambiguous a statement! I'm genderqueer, so I'm FAAB (female assigned at birth) but my gender identity's something I'm still sorting out. Still stuck at not-'woman' per se, I think...and seeing as that's where I've been for nearly a decade, I'm not sure when I'm going to come to any conclusions. Ack.
ETA: I haven't set on a pronoun, so she/her is okay, by the way, for those who just read the above!
