Congratulations! First of all it's great that you got accepted. The money issue I can empathise with-I didn'tget any funding or TAing with mine so I pay tuition out of my monthly pay from the day job. I'll have a think and see if I can marshall any thoughts/advice together for you.

oof, what a one-two punch to the gut. I have no idea about funding, but have a big big brainsmooch for getting in Bethan was telling me about a loan for career development that you can get - might that be worth looking into?

Congratulations, Kat! Great that you made it in.
Admittedly, that's a wicked hard situation to make a decision on. I don't know if it'd be possible to defer a year? (My guess is maybe not, but I'm not well-versed in PhD programme politics.)

Brilliant news!! Well done for getting a place there. That is the main and hardest thing sometimes. Congratulations! What will the PhD be in exactly? That is so, so disappointing though the the teaching. I also didn't get funding for my PhD, but it was really difficult. I got some teaching then towards the end of it, which helped. Might there be any teaching assistant jobs come up at all there in the next years? Or will those only go to new applicants? 3 isn't very many - might there be any other teaching opportunities there? I really hope things will work out for you, I got my fingers crossed!

Woah, late congrats! Wish you the best for what's coming! It's too bad for the teaching job, but I'm sure another good thing will follow the first!

It took about 30 seconds for me to realize I'd worked to hard for me not to take this, so I've accepted. I've bugged (nicely) the head of graduate studies in case a TAship opens up, and already sent my application to the local community college to see if I can adjunct (which I do now) and I'll continue to teach online, so I'll be scraping, but I've done that before.
Lucy- MTSU's three interests (and mine!) are Milton, folklore and popular culture. While my thesis will focus on Milton (and his folkloric characterization of Satan), it has broader implications of how folklore is presented in popular culture

I'm so glad that you've accepted Karra. You've definitely worked too hard to turn it down, and I'm sure you'll be able to get at least some TA work too. I'm really looking forward to reading more about your research as the PhD progresses
